Bake with Precision!
I’m a big fan of Food Network star Alton Brown, and one thing he’s taught me is that, when baking, one must measure by weight, not by volume. A cup of flour that is fluffed up and full of air looks the same as a cup of tightly compressed flour, but could actually vary by a few ounces…and that is not a risk you should take with Grandma’s Red Velvet recipe! So what’s a baker to do?
Well, you can memorize weight to cup conversions and make a mess of your counter trying to pour sugar onto your kitchen scale; or, you can take the easy way out and just buy the Taylor Digital Scale with Measuring Cup! It looks like a 4-cup measuring cup but it has a scale built into the bottom and can be switched to weigh certain ingredients specifically (flour, sugar, milk, water and oil) or just regular scale modes. It also switches between ounces and cups--to let you know that you’re doing Alton proud with your measuring that is easy and exact!
(and while you’re at it, you can pick up the PrepSolutions grind and measure pepper mill, so you can measure pepper as you grind it and then easily dispense it! We’re all about convenience here at The Afternoon!)
