MMMMMarch!: How To Boil Water

I consider myself pretty capable in the kitchen--I've made my own egg noodles, mastered a from-scratch strawberry cake, even made my own bread a time or two--but I'll be honest: it took me for-ev-er to figure out how to scramble an egg. Yes, scrambled eggs. The staple of college kids and single guys everywhere, arguable the easiest thing you can do with a stove and a pan, and I just couldn't get it right. Sometimes I burned them, sometimes they were too runny. I didn't want to ask anyone how they did it because it was embarrassing! I mean, everyone knows how to do that, right? This is a big reason why I love the Food Network series How to Boil Water, the cooking show that finally showed me how to cook an egg without making me feel stupid--and now we have their amazing cookbook at The Afternoon! The people behind HtBW take nothing for granted, and they never assume those things every home cook is "supposed" to know is something you know. This makes it a great volume for the beginning cook, but it's incredibly useful for the experienced as well because if you don't know how to do something, it teaches you; and if you do know how to do it, it teaches you the best way. The best way to make toast. The best way to freshly brew coffee. Not only does it give you a dynamite roast chicken recipe, it shows you how to carve the chicken, what knife to use, and how to hold that knife so you don't hurt yourself. There's even some non-recipe help in there, including tips on grocery shopping, menu planning, food storage, and even seating guests at casual dinner parties to encourage conversation! How to Boil Water has what the best cookbooks have: great recipes, beautiful pictures, and simple, delicious food you can really do!
