Omaha,
Neb. – Treasured Omaha retailer The
Afternoon is embarking on a new era in the new year, closing its Westroads
Mall location to concentrate on its thriving Midtown Crossing store.
“There
is so much energy going back into the city core,” said Peter Massey, CEO, The Afternoon. “This is a chance for us
to continue to invent ourselves in a place that has such dynamism, a real
renaissance area of the city that, I think, could become a leading part of the
city. Having this opportunity to be on the cutting-edge is very exciting.”
The Afternoon will close its Westroads
location on January 10.
Family-owned
The Afternoon brought its patented
blend of wit, panache and “browse-ability” to Midtown Crossing in 2010, one of the
development’s original retail partners. The store’s arrival at 32nd
& Farnam represented a homecoming of sorts. The Afternoon originally opened as an art gallery in 1962 near 40th
& Farnam.
“Midtown
is where we started out, and it’s more ‘our fit’ at this time. What we’re about
is the hip, urban, trendy market,” said Clifford.
Dedicated
to bringing that unique, eclectic, distinctive, and fun retail experience to
Omaha, The Afternoon boasts a wide
range of inventory – everything from art and housewares to jewelry, books and
games. Clifford said they will be enhancing the selection at the Midtown
Crossing store even further after Jan. 10.
“We’re
going to change our merchandise mix a little bit. We’ll have more cookware and
kitchen gadgets. We discovered that Midtown Crossing shoppers have a great
demand for gift wrap and gift bags. We’re going to carry more of those and more
cards as well.”
In addition to its Midtown Crossing
store, The Afternoon has a location
in Minnesota’s Mall of America and a bold Internet presence at www.theafternoon.com.
More
than anything, Clifford said she is excited about the change ahead. “Any new
challenge is exciting.”
