conscientious consumption
It started as a simple assignment: write a blog about the new Two's Company "Fine" Point pens, our new writing utensils made from recycled aluminum. Each pen provides a little mystery as you try to decipher what the original product was before it was recycled (so far we've figured out one Reddi Whip can and a can of brake fluid). They also just look really cool, with the obscured product labels making new, abstract designs in surprising color combinations.
But I wasn't satisfied with just talking about pens (however cool those pens may be), so I decided to walk around the store collecting other products made from recycled or recyclable materials. Before I knew it, the counter was completely covered!
I knew The Afternoon cared about going green, but I never realized how many green items we have!
We've blogged about our recycled "spaghetti" scrubbers and punk scrub brush, but now we have a whole line of green kitchen gadgets in Full Circle, which use a combination of bamboo, recycled and natural bristles, and biodegradable materials to make sponges, brushes, and scrubbers you can feel good about using in your kitchen--both because they're green and super cute!
And if you're looking for the very definition of "clean energy," the batteries for the new Kikkerland Hydro Power Clock and Hydro Power Calculator are water powered! Just refill the batteries to keep your clock running, and the batteries have a minimum continuous life of 2 years! So whether you're a eco-nerd or a science nerd, check these out because they are SO COOL.
So what to do with all these awesome green products? Why not combine a number of them for an earth friendly house warming or graduation gift? Or a Mother's Day gift that is good for Mother Earth, too? (In fact, we're working on a post about our recycled jewelry options that are so beautiful, so fabulous, so totally GREEN that they couldn't fit here! So stay tuned!)
